Dances of Life is all about adding more joy to life through dance, about making you dance more! And about facilitating new ways of experiencing yourself. I have found all this in three different areas of dance: Fusion Bellydance, Dance Meditations and Dance and Movement Therapy. I love to share my passions and what this has given me with the world. I do this in the weekly classes Fusion Bellydance that I teach in Amsterdam and the workshops in Dance Meditation and Dance and Movement Therapy that I am currently developing and facilitating.

Tribal and Fusion Bellydance

'What is bellydance exactly?' is a question people have asked me many times. The true origin of bellydance is a mystery. Some sources say that it used to be a temple dance that originated in India and was spread through Northern Africa and Spain. Others say that the origins of bellydance are in the Arab world.
Bellydance is a dance where the emphasis of the movements is mainly on the core and hip are but the rest of the body moves as well. Besides expanding your movement vocabulary and your body consciousness, practicing bellydance can give women the opportunity to make contact with their feminine power and sensuality and to express this. 
Stefanie teaches beginner classes in Tribal and Fusion Bellydance. In her classes you will learn basic (tribal) bellydance moves and to combine these into short choreographies. The emphasis in her classes is never about just copying the movements but to integrate them into your body, to broaden your movement vocabulary and find your fusion bellydance style. Dance Meditation


"Meditation starts by being separate from the mind, by being a witness. That is the only way of separating yourself from anything. Dance meditation is a form of active meditation which offers the possibility to connect to what lives inside of yourself with what is outside of yourself. It is an exercise in witnessing yourself, the thoughts, emotions, experiences, of everything inside you. The movement allows you to think less and experience more. In a dance meditation the dancer will go on a journey through different musical rhythms and will be encouraged and can practice in following the body in this dance instead of making the body following you.

We often start with an exercise in body awareness. From this expanded awareness the dancers are invited to move the way they want to move, they're encouraged to follow their body and the movements that are created by the body. The focus is turned inwards, the dance flows from the inside out. To assist this process the dance meditation usually takes place in a room that is dimly lit and in some cases the dancers will be blindfolded to encourage this process even more. 

The dance meditations usually focus on a theme such as the 4 elements or I facilitate one of Osho's Active Meditations

Dance and Movement Therapy


Dance and Movement Therapy is about the connection between body and mind. Dance and movement is a means of expression, self realisation and connection. Dance and movement Therapy is about using the body as a medium to gain insight in one's own psychological, physical, emotional and social well being. 
Dance and Movement Therapy helps people to become more conscious about the body, it's blockades and the way that someone's personality is intertwined in the body and helps to heal the connection. This form of therapy can give more confidence and freedom of choice. and stimulate someone's means of expression and give someone more ways to communicate. Dance and Movement Therapy has a proven effectiveness in anxiety issues, depression, emotional problems, addictions and other problems. It is also a very effective method to prevent depression.
In Dance and Movement Therapy one learns to work with it's emotions and experiences, one's fears and judgements that are in the way of someone's well being. You are stimulated in your creative thinking so that problems become challenges.
